Texture Hunt Around the House

A wonderful way to learn about textures is to go on a texture hunt around the house with your child.  First explain to them that texture is the look or feel of a surface.

As you walk around the house identifying textures, talk about the different kinds and allow them to touch as many as possible.  (Smooth, bumpy, soft, rough, fuzzy, wood, metal, glass, etc…)

Take pictures of each texture you find, using them to make a home-made book.  Intermix your pages with other items that have different textures such as fabric, paper, and aluminum foil.

An extension to the activity is to create rubbings of textures and display those in your book as well.
