Felt Scrap Garland, Necklace, or Snake

I admit it is somewhat odd.

Collecting felt scraps isn’t exactly a hobby for me, but I can’t bear to throw certain things away without first trying to think of another purpose for them.

My “collection” sort of got out of control recently so I decided to make this garland by stringing odd shaped pieces together with a needle and heavy duty thread, doubled.  (Yarn might work too.)

Shape or size of pieces doesn’t really matter.

If you have a piece that is too long, either cut it, or double it over into a “ribbon candy” effect and it works beautifully.

Variations:  Make a necklace by connecting both ends or a snake toy by sewing buttons on it for eyes.

  1. What a great idea! Now I think I can make this into a sewing activity for my almost 4 year old. I will test out the theory and see if it would be doable for little hands!
    • Hi Christina, I'm so glad you are trying a way to modify the idea to fit with your family! Let me know how it comes out please! :)
  2. Looks like it could be a fun scarf for a doll.
    • Thanks, Jill, that's a great idea! :)
  3. I am so glad you thought of this idea and shared it! I have been faithfully saving all those tinuy scraps of felt that accumulate after a project, but have no idea what to do with them! Great for dots and eyes but how many of those do i need? The garland would be how I would use this idea! Yours looks so pretty made from so many different colors. Thank you for sharing.
    • Pam, I am soooo glad I'm not the only one who saves "leftovers" like this. I have been thinking about how to use them for quite some time and it was beginning to bug me. The great thing is there are options! If you make a garland, I'd love to see it. Thanks for stopping by! :)
