What shapes can you find around your house?
Talk about and show examples of basic shapes with your preschoolers.
Then take a walk around your house looking for the shapes you discussed.
Depending on your child’s ability you may concentrate on one shape or several.
As an extension to the activity, you could take photos of the shapes they found, print them out, and then play a personalized version of “I Spy”.
( To play, each child takes a photo card, in turn, that only they see. Then they try to give clues for the others to guess the shape they have.)
Pointing out familiar items around the house is a great way to introduce shapes as well as many other concepts!
